Pastor Aaron Spangler began serving Alamance Lutheran Church on April 7, 2025. Alongside his parish ministry, he currently serves with the North Carolina Army National Guard as a Chaplain. He holds a degree in Religious Studies (B.A.) from Purdue University and a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He and his wife are from Greenwood, IN. His passion lies in community ministry and creating a church where all people are affirmed and welcomed to fully participate in the life of faith. Outside of ministry, Aaron enjoys competitive weightlifting, working with ceramics, and exploring the world of botany.

Interim Pastor

NOTE: WHILE PASTOR AARON IS ON MILITARY DUTY, PASTOR MARK IS SERVING AS INTERIM PASTOR.

I grew up in Durham, NC, where my family was active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. While attending UNC, I became deeply involved in Lutheran Campus Ministry at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, which is where I felt the call to ordained ministry. After graduating, I continued my studies at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC. I completed my internship in Miami, FL, and accepted my first call to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton, NC. Following three and a half years there, I was called to St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. After eleven years, I returned to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to serve as the Lutheran Campus Pastor for the students and staff at UNC-Chapel Hill. It was a joy to serve in that capacity for over 25 years and to retire after 40 years of ordained ministry.

I have been married to Kathy Weishuhn Coulter for over 43 years. We are blessed with three daughters, three sons-in-law, and six grandchildren. Kathy and I are enjoying our retirement by exercising, traveling, and helping renovate the horse barn and facilities where Kathy and our daughter stable their horses. I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing in your ministry as we serve together this summer.

Parish Administrator and Bookkeeper

A member of Mebane Presbyterian Church since 2009, Lenise grew up Lutheran and is always happy to revisit the full liturgy. She lives with her husband, three (teenaged to almost-grown-and-flown) sons, and three cats in a 100-yr-old house in Mebane and has a long and varied career, ranging from homeschool educator to online parrot supply store manager to health services analyst. Lenise sings in her church choir and loves the old hymns. She graduated from Washington and Lee University with a double major in Economics and German, which studies have figured into her homeschool educator role besides limited real-life application (the latter consisting mostly of rolling her eyes in despair).
